The Fisher’s Hook Ministry was birthed in the 80’s by my Daddy, Ray L. Fentress. It was really an umbrella for all things tied in to ministry and outreach. His work included mission trips to South America. He also had a real heart for the people of Haiti where he went on multiple mission trips to help build churches and offer support for medical missions. He also was the Pastor of a church and started a thrift store.
Some of the ministries birthed out of The Fisher’s Hook included outreaches at Mardi Gras passing out gospel tracts and witnessing in the street, to utilizing a flatbed trailer in various locations as a stage to share the gospel with others. Daddy even walked the streets in Atlanta carrying a cross on his shoulder.
About four years before Daddy passed away in February of 2017, he wanted to meet me and my wife Cindy at a hotel we were staying at in North Carolina while we were on vacation. It was there that he laid hands on me and prayed over me passing the mantle from father to son. I didn’t realize until his passing just how powerful this was and what it meant for me.
In 2021, the Lord spoke into my heart and told me it was time for me to pick up the mantle (if you will) for The Fisher’s Hook Ministry. Along with Cindy, we have done this in faith and obedience to the Lord. Sometimes it is hard to take a step of faith when you aren’t really sure what you are stepping in.
So in obedience and surrender, we have decided to get out of the kiddie pool and go into the deep. The Fisher’s Hook Ministry is all about fishing for the hearts and lives of people and we are trusting in the Lord to direct our every step.
I realize I am not my Daddy and am not supposed to be. I do know I am a Child of the King…. and that is good enough for me. Let the “fishing” begin.
